Layout: Road Trip

I made this layout using Journey Traveled by Paris Designs. This and other great kits by Paris Designs can be found at Deco-Pages.

I remember this day so well. My daughter was bored because all of her friends had gone to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break so my husband and I decided to surprise her and take a mini road trip!

Journaling: It was Spring Break...and one of those rare times we acted on impulse. We told Ashleigh to pack an overnight bag & hopped in the car. We then drove four hours to Reading so we could shop at the local outlet malls. We checked into a hotel and I relaxed with a book. Rick & Ashleigh went for a swim and enjoyed the hot tub. We picked up some brochures and Ashleigh made a list of the stores she wanted to go to. We shopped most of the day and then headed back home. Needless to say it was quite late when we finally got home and we were tired but we all enjoyed our Spring Break road trip!

Layout: The Berlin Wall

I made this layout using Journey Traveled by Paris Designs. This and other great kits by Paris Designs are available at Deco-Pages.

Journaling: The Berlin Wall is something I learned about in history class. It was erected in 1961. According to East Berlin officials it was a means to stop ’free movement of Western agents’ between East and West Germany, however in actuality it was to keep the citizens of East Germany from leaving. It started as a basic wire fence and eventually was replaced with a concrete wall. Over the years there were numerous attempts by people to escape to West Berlin. In November of 1989 I was able to watch history being made. TV stations broadcasted as the wall came down. My Mother-in-law traveled to Germany to visit friends and took this photo of a section of the wall that remains standing.

ADSR Challenge 1 layout: Wednesday's Child

This is the layout I made for this season's first challenge. I've been to the race gallery and there are a lot of great layouts...make sure you go to Ndis to check them out!

Journaling: Almost everyone has heard the poem called Monday‘s Child. It starts like this: “Monday’s child is fair of face; Tuesday‘s child is full of grace....”. You were born on a Wednesday and Wednesday’s child is full of woe. But I think because of your love of horses it should be ‘full of whoa’. You’ve been drawn to horses all of your life. As a toddler you would sit on the rocking horse for hours. When you got older you wanted to take riding lessons and go to horse camp. And now, you are attending college majoring in Equine Sciences. Whoa...doesn’t it make you wonder just a little bit if being a Wednesday’s child has anything to do with it?

Tagged

Brittney tagged me. So I have to tell you 6 facts about myself:

1. I like liver (especially smothered in onions)!
2. I can't sing.
3. I like to camp.
4. I am not as tall as my drivers license says I am.
5. I like to bake.
6. I have been known to spend hours balancing a checkbook just to find a penny.

Now I just have to figure out who I will tag!

Layout: Hide and Seek

This is one of the layouts I made during the ADSR last year. I am patiently (okay....maybe not patiently) waiting for this year's contest to begin!!!

Journaling: One of my hobbies is genealogy and one of my favorite places to go is a cemetery. Almost any cemetery will do...but I especially like the older ones. Cemeteries are quiet and peaceful. I enjoy walking around reading the names and looking at the beautiful artwork on the stones. And, if I get lucky, sometimes I find a long lost relative or two! I read once that, “Genealogy is like playing hide and seek: They hide...I seek!” and I couldn’t help but chuckle...how true that statement is! I searched for years to find the gravestones of my great great grandparents and words can’t even begin to describe the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction I felt when I finally found them!

Layout: Eating Watermelon

"One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating." Luciano Pavarotti

I happened to come across this quote and I immediately thought of these photos of Gabby eating watermelon at the family reunion. She was enjoying the watermelon so much that she was oblivious to the juice running down her chin! I thought they'd be perfect for the Color Line Designs February 2008 Template Challenge.

We have heat!

The repairman got to the house around 4 am and after looking over the furnace he told us it needed a new ignitor and control module. He had the ignitor but he would have to call around to find the control module and he warned us that it could take a few days to get the part.

We closed off rooms that weren't being used, had the dryer running, turned the oil-filled radiator on high, started the oven (to bake cookies) and we managed to keep the temperature in the house around 58 degrees.

When the repairman called shortly after 8 am to tell us he had found the part and would be at our house in about 45 minutes we were relieved....at least until he had fixed the furnace and handed us the bill. Yea....$450 but at least we are warm.

In the afternoon we took our daughter's dog to the vet to have her booster shots as well as her rabies shot. Shortly after we got home we noticed that her eyes were swollen shut and her mouth was also swollen. Great....the dog is having an allergic reaction to her shots! What next? Her breathing seemed to be okay so we called the vet to ask what we should do....he said to give her Benadryl, watch her breathing and if she got worse to call back. The Benadryl seemed to work...most of the swelling is gone.

Yea....it ranks up there as being one of the more stressful days than I've had in a while.

Baby it's cold

Baby it's cold inside...again. It is -4 outside. The 'real feel' temperature is -10 to -15. The perfect night for the furnace to quit working....again. Needless to say it is getting a little chilly in the house. So, at 2:15 am my husband is calling a furnace repair man. I am headed to the bedroom to find a warmer pair of socks and another sweatshirt. Then I am starting a load of laundry (hopefully the water pipes don't freeze) and heading to the kitchen to find something to bake!

Nah...as I've told many people....my birthday's don't make me feel old...my daughter's do! No special plans for the rest of the day. I'll probably just be lazy and work on layouts!
